For those of us that could only attend SDCC if it were hosted on a holodeck, the internet and various celebrity social media accounts were flooded with hints and peeks of what went down at the mecca of nerd gatherings. From sneak peeks and teaser trailers to epic panel discussions, the star-studded event was even bigger this year as fan followings for critically acclaimed television series grew and anticipation for future superhero films had us all searching for answers. Nerds filled the convention center like Orcs in Middle Earth dressed as their favorite characters to catch a glimpse of celebrities, SDCC exclusive merchandise, and maybe even a trailer for 2015’s highly anticipated “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
Of all panels, the “Avengers: Age of Ultron” panel was ridiculously fun to watch before the cast was even on the stage, thanks to the entrances of rose-throwing-shades-wearing Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner to one of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits. Chris Evans was given applause for the success of “Captain America Winter Soldier” and we got to meet Elizabeth Olsen (as Scarlet Witch) and James Spader (as Ultron). Although they are careful not to reveal too much, it was a treat to watch. The empty seat for Mr. Joss Whedon, or as we Buffy fans refer to him as, the great and powerful Joss, was unfortunate, but the cast held it’s own and the hearts of the audience.
Another panel, also highly anticipated, was the “Game of Thrones” panel where we met some characters that were still living and some that had already met their grizzly demise in addition to the best selling author, George R. R. Martin. Questions, panel and fan asked, ranged from shooting locations to the real identity of John Snow’s mother, but don’t worry fans, no reveals or spoilers for season five. A sneak peek within the first twenty minutes show us new cast and characters for the upcoming season while still shrouding their purpose in mystery.
Although many sought after panels involved what’s coming to premium channels and the silver screen, this panel focused on the comic-inspired television shows coming soon including “Arrow”, “Constantine”, “Gotham”, and “The Flash”. Hilarious and fun to watch, this panel gave some great footage and small spoilers like the inclusion of Wentworth Miller and the appearance of Reverse Flash.
And more panels like:
Season 2 “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
“The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies”
And what would SDCC be without the release of trailers?! Check out these trailers and sneak peek of these highly anticipated films, games, and series coming soon!
